Plovdiv, Bulgaria / Пловдив, България
… wasn’t definately on my bucket list before I started my trip, but turned out as a surprise in a positive way! It’s situated in the south of Bulgaria and is popular for their roman heritage and several very high hills in the middle of the city. Also, on my 2nd night, there was the Plovdiv Museum Night with a lot of concerts and open museums all over the crowded city centre.
Digression: As someone who has lived for four years in Germany’s oldest city Trier, I was curious how Plovdiv would handle their roman sights in comparison. In my opinion, Trier could definately get some inspiration from Plovdiv instead of letting build more cubic stuff around their ruins. I especially liked how Plovdiv integrated the roman stadium in front of the mosque into the main pedestrian road (pic6).
