TPTS from Essen/Germany play music with a style that could be weird for many people: Screamo/Post-Hardcore with acoustic guitars. Recently they released their 2nd full length album "Nicht mal mehr wir selbst" which got quite polarising reviews. Negative critics mention mostly the voice of their singer Daniel, positive reviews mention their unique style, their song structures, post-rock influences, the song’s atmosphere.
I am personally fascinated by their new album (already mentioned it in my top10 of 2011). Daniel isn’t the best singer for clean vocals, so the singing mostly consists of sprechgesang (“rap” would be a wrong word) and loud calls. And yes, the acoustic guitars really form an own unique sound and atmosphere.
At their bandcamp-page you can listen to four songs of the album - of those I recommend “Lebewohl” as one of the softest songs and “Goldener Schnitt”!
Another release of them I really have to recommend is their 2009 EP "Hier spielt die Musik". Five songs which vary in style and length but five of their best songs! It can be streamed in full length and for free at their bandcamp-page. Especially the last 7min-song “Da kann ich ein Lied von singen” with a long instrumental intro satisfies the claims for fans of ambitious song structures.
And another fact besides the music: they can be really proud for their album artworks!
Outside of Germany they are quite unknown and although I mentioned they got their unique style, I would recommend them to fans of: Circle takes the square, At the drive-in, La dispute, Envy, Pianos become the teeth or german bands like Longing for tomorrow, City light thief, , Andorra Atkins, Distance in embrace, Escpado, …
is it crazy to do a 4hour-ride to Amsterdam for a concert? Maybe, but WORTH IT!
arrived at 14:00 at Camping Zeebrug in the east of Amsterdam and threw our tent next to the waterfront - I definetely recommend this camping site
we took a tram to Dam square in the city centre where a big pillow fight took place - we didn’t have any clue what this was about..
we spent the afternoon with walking through the city centre and its canals
and in the evening finally: City & Colour concert at Melkweg - I think it’s one of the most awesome concert locations of this size I’ve been to!
after the concert we went to a nice Belgish bar with a typical very big choice of different beers :) getting to the camping site at night was possible by nightbus. the ride took some time, but we arrived safely and so we did after another four-hour-ride back home!
Michigan’s band La Dispute just released their new longplay record “Wildlife”. After several listens I think it’s one of the best albums of the year 2011. There is no other band with such an authentic atmosphere while their singer is doing his own characteristic mixture of talking and shouting within all moods from desparation to anger.
Everyone who is into genres of punk/hardcore/screamo/indie who doesn’t know this band should totally give them a listen! The intro is leading into the atmosphere of the album and my favourite songs are interestingly all the tracks with odd numbers and especially King Park as a seven-minute-masterpiece!
